Superlatives

Superlatives are a form of the adjective where something is described to the highest degree possible.

Superlatives follow the same pattern as comparatives, except for a slight difference in the ending.

One syllable adjectives + est.

a) Cold + est = coldest

Two syllable adjectives ending in a y, take away the y + -iest.

b) Windy +iest = windiest

Three or more syllable adjectives + ‘the most’

c) Beautiful =The Most Beautiful

The irregular adjectives have forms that you learn by heart.

Good – The Best

Bad – The Worst

Far – The Furthest

It is possible to replace ‘the’ with ‘my’, ‘your’, ‘his’, ‘her’ etc.
